"Yufusan" is distilled alcoholic beverage called shochu, made from barley. This soft- and mild-taste shochu is named after Mt. Yufu located near the town of Yufuin, which is a famous hot spring resort in Japan. This drink became popular first in Yufuin, and then has been getting popular in other parts of the prefecture, such as Oita and Beppu, and in the Kansai district.

Business Profile

Kuge Honten, a sake brewery, was established in Usuki in 1860 as an official sake brewery of the feudal lord family Inaba. Usuki is famous for its brewing industry. The company increased its production by introducing mass production lines, and changed the system from barreling to bottling in 1919. At the same time, we extended our market to other parts of Kyushu and the Shikoku and Kansai districts. Toward the end of 1970's, we started the production of a barley shochu called "Sekibutsu or Stone Buddha". We have been seeking to develop new products while keeping the basics of brewing.
